Festivities Begin Aug. 30th -- Four Days Of Fun Downtown!


MEMPHIS, Tenn., August 20, 2001 – Peabody Place Entertainment and Retail Center is celebrating its Grand Opening — Aug. 30th through Sept. 2nd — including a ceremony commemorating the Peabody Hotel's 20th Anniversary.

Jack A. Belz, chairman and CEO of Belz Enterprises — the man who began building his company's vision for a comprehensive development Downtown more than 25 years ago — will welcome the attendees and honored guests, starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30th inside the Entertainment and Retail Center. The Center is located on Peabody Place between Second and Third Streets, and the public is invited.

The Grand Opening celebration will officially begin Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with a ceremony honoring the Peabody Hotel's 20th Anniversary. During the Peabody Hotel's Annual Duck Walk Hall of Fame Presentation, Mr. Belz traditionally recognizes individuals for their contribution to Downtown redevelopment. A brass name plaque placed in the sidewalk at the corner of Union Avenue and Second Street next to the Peabody Hotel will later immortalize such accomplishments.

The Peabody Place Entertainment and Retail Center's Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will follow, from the stage below the clock in the Center's atrium.

Visitors to Grand Opening festivities can also register for an Orlando vacation for four, $1,000 shopping spree, and numerous door prizes while at the Center. Registration is possible at any of four First Tennessee ATMs inside the Center, as well as over 50 First Tennessee branch locations throughout the Memphis area. A drawing for the prizes will be held Sept. 2nd at 3 p.m., and the winners' names will be posted near each of the ATMs where they registered.

Following the Grand Opening ribbon cutting, VIP invitees will assemble inside the Peabody Hotel's New Grand Ballroom where there will be a champagne reception and musical entertainment by Tom Lonardo and Jazzoid.

Peabody Place Entertainment and Retail Center tenants will be offering additional festivities, fun and excitement in conjunction with the four-day Grand Opening event, with their own special in-store promotions. So seize the opportunity to – Come downtown and play!

Peabody Place Entertainment and Retail Center is part of Belz Enterprises' Peabody Place development. The Center covers more than 300,000 square feet showcased in a unique "streetscape" environment, and is accessible from any one of three connected, indoor parking garages.

For direct parking garage access once you're downtown navigate to Peabody Place, remembering that traffic on Union Avenue moves both east and west. Around the Entertainment and Retail Center, traffic on Second flows south, and on Third moves north. The Main Street Trolley also runs within a block of PPERC.
