Smith & Associates, PLLC, a new Memphis law firm, has leased 3,750 square feet of Class A office space in The Tower at Peabody Place. Gary Smith, who opened the firm this year after leaving Smith, Sabbatini & McLeary, first considered moving his practice closer to home in East Memphis. However, Smith says he was ultimately persuaded to remain downtown, not only because of the great location, but because of the personal interest and effort Jack Belz made in developing a relationship with Smith. "The Tower is a great location, and I really believe it is the best managed and maintained building in Memphis," said Smith. "In addition, I have a lot of respect for Jack Belz and his contributions to Memphis, and I felt that remaining downtown would allow me to contribute to the incredible growth occurring here." An attorney for the past 30 years, Smith's practice focuses on plaintiff litigation. Gary K. Smith & Associates' six employees consist of Smith, two associate attorneys and their support staff. In order to fit Smith's specifications, Belz completely renovated the office space. "Not only did I want a professional office, but I wanted something that reflected my personality," said Smith. "We were able to work with the team at Belz and develop exactly what I wanted." One perk that Smith enjoys is the special view from his office. Smith, who is an avid Broadway buff, has original Broadway posters on display throughout the office. One of his favorites is a collage of old photos and posters from Les Miserables. "They gave me the best view in the building," exclaimed Smith. "I can look right out the window and see The Orpheum."
