CHILDREN'S PAGODA DESIGN EXHIBIT AT PEABODY PLACE MUSEUM

WHAT:

Peabody Place Museum will display projects from the Pagoda Design Competition for children in Memphis-area (Shelby County) public and private school art classes. This event is hosted and co-sponsored by the Memphis chapter of American Institute of Architects (AIA). Architect-advisors were assigned by AIA's Education Committee to participating school art classes to assist art teachers and his/her students with designing and building their pagoda projects.

Entries will be judged on November 14th, and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24th.

BACKGROUND:

Peabody Place Museum houses one of the nation's largest collections of 19th century Chinese art. The permanent exhibit at the Museum includes objects created for Chinese nobility during the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911). The collection includes intricately carved jade sculptures, beautifully crafted enamelware pieces and rare objects created from ivory. The Museum has smaller collections of fossils and minerals, contemporary European art glass, Russian lacquer boxes, Judaic art and more.
