SHARP FLOWERS BRINGS FLORAL ELEGANCE AND ROMANCE BACK TO DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS
New Florist Now Open at Pembroke Square

MEMPHIS, Tenn., (Mar. 3, 2003) - For John Streeter, flowers are a family affair. After fifteen years honing his floral skills in New York, Streeter returns to Memphis to re-open Sharp Flowers, the family flower shop started by his grandmother in the midst of the Great Depression.

Raised in the flower business, Streeter took over the family flower shop and moved it from Wynne, Ark., to the Peabody Hotel. His grandiose floral designs adorned the Peabody fountain from 1983 to 1988, while he ran the first Sharp Flowers. He now returns to bring his vision and floral experience to Memphis at Pembroke Square.

Located in the heart of downtown's historic district, the shop at Pembroke Square is surrounded by the charm of cobblestone Main Street and offers close proximity to retail shops and restaurants. The Main Street shop offers a variety of exotic flowers and unique arrangements. Patrons will find everything from classic red roses to more rare and unusual blooms such as the Lobster Tail Haliconias and Hawaiian Obaki.

Streeter's exotic taste is reflected in his choice of décor for the flower shop. A wall-sized mural of an intricate Italian Renaissance garden designed by a theatrical backdrop company adorns the shop.

"I am like an antique dealer on the hunt for the rare find. I search every country, every grower to find something I haven't seen before," said Streeter.

The shop specializes in premium long-lasting roses. Recognizing that customers are often disappointed when their rose purchases don't last, Streeter's special process submits roses to a warm water and conditioner treatment to lengthen the life of the bloom.

"Cutting the roses when they arrive in the store and letting them drink the warm water solution ensures that they are strong and last," staid Streeter.

For a twist on an old favorite, Streeter suggests the Black Magic rose, a velvety dark red bloom. His other favorites are the hot pink Royal Ambiance and the old fashioned Ambiance, a romantic garden rose in creamy pastel yellow and pink.

Located at 125 South Main in Suite 101, Sharp Flowers is open Monday through Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
