Minneapolis Company Capitalizes on Local Distribution Capabilities, Locates Warehouse Operations in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tennessee, June 10, 2002 – Minneapolis-based Sulzer Spine-Tech, a division of Centerpulse, has opened a new 30,000-square-foot warehouse facility in the Memphis Logistics and Technology Center (MELTECH) owned by Belz Enterprises. Sulzer Spine-Tech designs, manufactures and distributes medical devices and surgical tools used in spinal surgery.

"Our products are very specialized and we ship products all over the word," said Mike McCormick, general manager and executive vice president of Sulzer Spine-Tech. "In some cases we send products to immediate needs situations, so it was important to locate our warehouse in an area with superior shipping capabilities. Memphis, with the presence of FedEx, was an obvious choice. And MELTECH was the ideal facility because it is the most modern, up-to-date development with almost immediate access to the airport."

Andrew Groveman, senior vice president, Belz Enterprises, believes Memphis will continue to see an increased demand for modern industrial space.

"Because of our position as America's distribution center, Memphis is poised to see continued growth within the biomedical and orthopedic industry," said Groveman. "As a result, many companies entering the Memphis market are going to require advanced warehouse and manufacturing developments. As the most current new development built near the Memphis International Airport in ten years, MELTECH is the most technically sophisticated industrial park in the immediate area."

The buildings are constructed of smooth-faced tilt-up concrete, featuring a clear height of 30 feet with 50-foot column spacings, an ESFR sprinkler system, R-19 roof insulation and a capacity for cross docks. Recent additions deliver from 190,000 square feet up to 367,500 square feet of bulk warehouse or manufacturing space and include the completion of two new buildings.

A national leader in real estate development, Belz owns and manages more than 30 million square feet of industrial/commercial/warehouse space, distribution centers, shopping centers, office buildings, mixed-use centers and corporate campuses.
