Jim Stock Named Belz 2002 Employee of the Year

Capping off a productive, 26-year career with Belz Enterprises, Jim Stock, Assistant Vice President of the Asset Management Department, has been named the 2002 Employee of the Year. Jim joined Belz in 1976 and retired at the end of 2002. Jim’s seven children and their spouses surprised him with their presence at the company’s annual holiday party, where the award was announced.

"Jim has been a tremendous asset to our company over the years," said Jack Belz, Chairman and CEO of Belz Enterprises. "We are definitely going to miss him, both professionally and personally."

Each year, Belz Enterprises chooses one outstanding employee to receive the Employee of the Year award. The recipient is chosen based on loyalty, merit, dedication and performance. Before his retirement, Jim was the property manager for approximately 7 million square feet of industrial properties in south and southeast Memphis. In addition, he was involved in the sales and marketing of Memphis’ Rivergate Industrial Port and Metro Industrial Park.

"Jim has always been very enthusiastic about his work," said Belz. "He has provided our company with the highest caliber of hard work and dedication and truly deserves to be named the 2002 Employee of the Year."

Jim’s contributions extend beyond Belz Enterprises to the entire Memphis industrial community. He is a founding member and continues to serve on the Board of Directors of the Memphis Uniport Association, and is a member and past president of the Tennessee Industrial Development Council. He remains active in the Southern Economic Development Council, the National Waterways Conference, Lamda Alpha International, and the Mississippi Economic Development Council. Jim is also a part
of the Brooks Road Corridor Committee, an organization dedicated to the revitalization of Brooks Road near Memphis International Airport.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Jim began an early career by joining Air Canada. He worked for Illinois Central Railroad for ten years prior to joining Belz Enterprises.

"At first I was nervous about joining a private company," said Stock. "I had always worked for large public companies and I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I was really surprised at the size of the company and at how dedicated and friendly everyone was. It has been a great experience over the years."

Jim says that while he is definitely going to miss working with all of the great people at Belz on a daily basis, he is looking forward to a lot of traveling and golf. The Employee of the Year recipient receives a travel certificate to use toward the destination of their choice. Jim and his wife, Lucille, are planning a trip to France where they will visit Marseilles and Paris. The Stocks are also planning trips to Canada and Portland, Oregon.
