CALENDAR LISTING CHINESE NEW YEAR 2006 FAMILY DAY CELEBRATION Celebrate the Year of the Dog with the Peabody Place Museum! DATE: Saturday, February 4, 2006 TIME: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. WHEN: New Year's Eve PLACE: Peabody Place Museum COST: $3 EVENT DESCRIPTION: The Peabody Place Museum, home to a world-class collection of 19th Century Chinese art, celebrates the Year of the Dog! Each Chinese year is named after an animal, and every 12 years, the names repeat. The Year of the Dog officially begins on January 29, 2006. Family Day at Peabody Place Museum will feature traditional Chinese dancing, singing and arts and crafts projects for children. Winners from the museum’s “This Chinese New Year is for the Dogs” art contest will be announced. Special puppets donated from China will be on display. In honor of the Year of the Dog, a portion of the day’s proceeds will be donated to the Memphis & Shelby County Humane Society.
