Downtown Memphis Thrives - Peabody Place at Center of Growth

Today's growth and activity in downtown Memphis immediately brings to mind America's thriving downtown urban centers of the 50's and 60's. And with the FedEx Forum, future home of the Memphis Grizzlies, set to open in September, this busy metropolitan area is the place to be for tourists as well as Memphis residents.

At the heart of all this activity is Peabody Place, a two-million-square-foot complex of multi-use retail, office, hotel, entertainment and residential buildings. Peabody Place is home to the Peabody Place Entertainment and Retail Center, hotels, a high-rise office tower, restored historic buildings, a museum, apartments and retail space - all within a six-block area just a few steps away from Beale Street, and the new FedEx Forum.

American Golf Schools is the newest tenant to locate in Peabody Place, opening a downtown location in the Pembroke Building. The state-of-the-art facility has four indoor hitting bays with large plasma viewing screens, professional PGA instructors and a Nike Pro shop.

The Center for Southern Folklore expanded and boosted its visibility to foot traffic with the opening of its new Folklore Store on South Main. The Folklore Store is a showcase for more than 300 Southern artists, musicians and craftspeople. The store also sells gourmet coffees, sandwiches, salads and desserts.

Peabody Place Entertainment and Retail Center has celebrated several recent openings as well. After undergoing extensive renovations, Isaac Hayes' Music · Food · Passion restaurant reopened with a new dance floor, a VIP lounge with a diverse, sophisticated atmosphere and a revamped menu.

Bath Junkie opened on the second floor of the center, and features exceptional quality bath products custom-mixed to the consumer's specifications. Products include a variety of lotions, body washes, bubble baths, salt scrubs, colognes, body mists and massage oils.

Men's apparel retailer Nandwani's opened in November and offers custom-fitted suits from Hong Kong, Italy and Spain, and a wide selection of exotic-skin shoes. Customers can choose from hundreds of swatches in a variety of colors, patterns and textures for a one-of-a-kind, tailor-made suit.
