Peabody Place Continues to Attract Diverse Tenants, Adding to Excitement of Downtown Memphis Whether you’re in the mood for a night on the town, a quick lunch Music. Movies. Dining. Shopping. Peabody Place recently welcomed two new restaurants, Encore Restaurant & Bar and The Majestic Grille. Both eateries are already gaining recognition for their exceptional menus and comfortable atmospheres. Encore Restaurant & Bar, located in the Peabody Place Entertainment& Retail Center, showcases the culinary talents of famed chef Jose Gutierrez. Chef de Cuisine at The Peabody hotel’s Chez Philippe restaurant for more than 20 years, Gutierrez brings his knack for French cuisine with a Southern twist to the Downtown bistro. The setting is elegant, yet comfortable and the mouth-watering menu is reasonably priced. The Majestic Grille, the newest addition to the Downtown restaurant landscape, offers a wide variety of bistro-style selections in a historic building. Located at 145 S. Main in a space that housed The Majestic Theatre starting in 1914, The Majestic Grille serves as a lunch and dinner destination for downtown workers and residents. Peabody Place’s newest restaurants only add to an impressive list of eateries already scattered throughout the eight-block area. From providing lunch options for downtown workers to satisfying even the toughest sweet tooth, Peabody Place has something for everyone. National names like Starbucks, Texas de Brazil, Maggie Moo’s, Hooters and the Flying Saucer continuously impress diners. Other local favorites include Dan McGuiness’ Irish Pub, BlueFin, South Philly, Holiday Ham and Isaac Hayes Restaurant & Nightclub. Looking for some fun in-between meals? Peabody Place’s wide assortment of retail shops and entertainment venues means shoppers and fun-seekers of all ages will never get bored. National retail chains like Ann Taylor Loft, Victoria’s Secret, Gap, Foot Locker, Tower Records and Hot Topic make Peabody Place a destination for the most discriminating shopper. Specialty stores such as Claire's Boutique, Rivertown Gallery, Sports Avenue and Sharp Flowers and Gifts make Peabody Place stand out from the average retail center. One specialty store gaining incredible attention this year is Shelton Clothiers. The opening of the fine men’s clothing retailer represented a shift in retail along Downtown’s Main Street, from a decades-long dry spell to the start of a rebirth for one of the cities’ most historic streets. Shelton’s opened to great success due to its extensive clothing lines, attentive customer service and the accessibility of its main audience– Downtown men living and working in Peabody Place’s residential and office developments. Main Street is experiencing a rush along its trolley lines as retail and residential space continues to grow. In addition to prime retail opportunities, Peabody Place is the place to be for entertainment. The 22-screen Muvico Theatre plays the latest movie releases to packed audiences each night. Muvico is home to a 550-seat, 60-foot tall, large-screen theater that keeps audiences wrapped-up in the onscreen action. The Putting Edge, an indoor golf course, is popular with golfers of all abilities. To top it all off, Jillian’s provides three levels of gaming, from a retro-style bowling alley to a first-class billiards lounge. The Center of It All Downtown Memphis is home to more than 28,000 residents and this figure continues to climb. In addition to residents, there are more than 70,000 employees in the two areas closest to Peabody Place – the Downtown core and the Central Business Improvement District – reaffirming Peabody Place’s prime location. Peabody Place really is the heart of Downtown, positioned perfectly in the middle of some of the cities greatest attractions. A few blocks north of Peabody Place is AutoZone Park, home of the Redbirds, Memphis’ AAA Baseball Team. A few blocks south is FedExForum, where the Memphis Grizzlies and the University of Memphis Tigers excite loyal basketball fans throughout the season and where some of the country’s hottest performers entertain sold-out crowds. Also within the bustling area lies the famed Beale Street, Tennessee’s most popular tourist attraction and a nighttime destination for many Memphis residents. At the end of Beale Street sits the equally famous Orpheum Theatre, where traveling plays, musicals and concerts stop to entertain Memphis audiences throughout the year.
