Peabody Hotel Group Re-names Hotel Divisions and Announces Top Executive Promotion

Marty Belz, chairman of the Peabody Hotel Group, announced in February the re-naming of the company’s two hotel divisions. “Our three Peabody-flagged hotels will henceforth be known as Peabody Hotels, and our franchise properties will be known as the Brand Management Division. Both divisions are within the portfolio of Peabody Hotel Group,” revealed Belz.

Belz also announced the promotion of David V. Shamoian to president of
the Brand Management Division. “David has been an integral part of Peabody Hotel Group for over 27 years,” said Belz. “He has served in many roles, including oversight of our Peabodyflagged hotels. For more than a decade he headed operations for our franchise hotels in his capacity as executive vice president. David also will continue as executive vice president of Peabody Hotel Group’s Executive Committee.”

Shamoian is a serving member on the Board of the IAHI, the franchise owners association for Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG). He recently assumed the role of chairman of the board of IAHI and will continue to work with member representatives to review standards, rules of operations and other issues relevant to maintaining the highest professional standards for the IHG brands.

News from The Peabody Hotels:

The Peabody Little Rock was the social center for the recent Grand Opening of the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library& Center and played host to visiting heads of state, U.S. senators, and Hollywood personalities. Extensive national TV coverage of the event brought national attention to The Peabody.

The Peabody Memphis was one of the stars of the recently aired PBS “Antiques Roadshow” program. The story of how The Peabody Ducks tradition began was beautifully told on the program. Douglas V. Browne, the hotel's general manager, was well-pleased with the role of The Peabody Memphis in the show.

The Peabody Orlando has just completed a total makeover of its front entrance, foyer and atrium lobby. Alan C. Villaverde, the hotel’s general manager, reports that the renovations have given the hotel a whole new “wow factor.” Of particular note is the new floor in the entrance lobby. It features a magnificent representation of a Mallard drake’s head, surrounded by starburst designs in marble and mosaics.
