In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, throughout October
Belz Factory Outlet World St. Augustine will exhibit a "Day
Without Violence" Calendar Art Display from the Betty Griffin House.
For the past three years, the Betty Griffin House has held a contest
in St. Johns County schools, giving children ages six to 18 the opportunity
to portray what a peaceful world looks like through their artwork. More
than 300 students submitted artwork and 13 were chosen to appear in
the 2002 calendar. Calendars are distributed free of charge to classrooms
and are available to the public for a nominal fee.
As a private, non-profit agency, the Betty Griffin House provides
emergency shelter to abused women and their children, and temporary shelter
for rape victims in danger after the crime. Other available support
services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, individual and group counseling,
case management, civil legal representation, and court advocacy.
