PEABODY PLACE MUSEUM CELEBRATES TRADITIONS AND
CUSTOMS OF CHINA WITH CHINESE CULTURAL FESTIVAL

WHAT:
Peabody Place Museum, in cooperation with the Cultural Development Foundation of Memphis and Handy Park, will celebrate the dance, art and traditions of China with a Chinese Cultural Festival. Peabody Place Museum will host guest artists in the Dynasty Room for demonstrations and displays of their artwork. Local Chinese dance company Nai Ni Chen will perform an inspiring dance celebrating cultural diversity and exploring new traditions in Handy Park.
The museum's admission during the Chinese Cultural Festival will be $5, which includes the museum visit and dance performance. Peabody Place Museum will offer specially reduced souvenir items in the gift shop and a special Chinese egg table.

BACKGROUND:
The Peabody Place Museum is home to one of the largest collections of Chinese Nineteenth Century art in the country. The museum's collection consists primarily of imperial art from the Qing Dynasty. The bulk of the permanent collection contains objects of intricately carved ivory, jade and semiprecious stones, enamelware and cinnabar lacquer.
