Peabody Place Hosts Reunion of Larry Raspberry/Don Nix Revue with Fingers Taylor

MEMPHIS, Tennessee, April 16, 1999 -- Peabody Place will kick off its new summer concert series with the reunion of the Larry Raspberry/Don Nix Revue with Fingers Taylor, appearing at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 27.

One of the most popular bands of the 1970s, the Larry Raspberry/Don Nix Revue couples two legendary Memphis musicians with world-renowned harmonica player Fingers Taylor, who also has roots in the Mid-South.

Raspberry was the lead singer of the Gentrys, recording hit records such as "Keep on Dancin’" and "Brown Paper Sack." In addition, Raspberry fronted several Memphis bands throughout the 1970s and 80s and recorded numerous albums with his band the Highsteppers.

Nix was a member of the original Mar Keys, where he was not only a performer but also a producer and writer.

Fingers Taylor, originally a harmonica player in the Larry Raspberry/Don Nix Revue, went on to join the Jimmy Buffett band, where he is still a featured performer.

The concert series at Peabody Place will be held at the foot of the Tower located at the intersection of Main Street and Peabody Place. All concerts are free and open to the public.

This year, Peabody Place’s summer concert series will feature several different styles of music. The Raspberry reunion will be the first of several Very Special One-time Performances (VSOP) which will reunite local bands for a one-time show at Peabody Place.

The series also will feature several "Future Stars" concerts. The Future Stars are recording artists identified by national talent agencies as "up-and-coming" musicians. In addition to these types of concerts, Peabody Place also will host the annual downtown performances of Jason D. Williams, and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra pops concert featuring Memphis jazz-great James Williams.

Peabody Place is an eight block mixed-use facility in downtown Memphis developed by Belz Enterprises. A Chinese art museum, restaurants, a grocery store, a card shop and several other stores have located in the Peabody Place retail space providing convenient goods and services for people living, working and visiting downtown.
