Hits Peabody Place

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (September 9, 1997) – Rockin’ wild man Jason D. Williams and Freeworld will hit the stage on Wednesday, September 17 at the Peabody Place, The Block That Rocks, Block Party. Peabody Place in Downtown Memphis will light up again this month as Belz Enterprises and the Center City Commission present the 3rd Peabody Place Block Party of the summer.

From 5:30 – 10:00 p.m., partygoers can indulge on culinary delights from The Flying Saucer, Breckenridge Brewery and Ciao Cucina, register to win prizes and enjoy the eclectic sounds of two of the city’s hottest musical acts - Freeworld and Jason D. Williams.

In the style of popular "jam" bands Grateful Dead and Phish, Freeworld has found a dedicated following in the Mid-South. From their self-titled debut album to 1996’s You Are Here, the band has cranked out a string of popular hits including "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow," "Earth Mother" and "Better View." Freeworld, which plays a regular three-set gig on Sunday evenings at Blues City Café on Beale St., tours frequently in the region with recent shows in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Oxford, Miss., and New Orleans, La.

While wild man pianist Jason D. Williams’ sound is much different from Freeworld, his musical innovation combining classical, rockabilly, country and jazz has won him fans of many musical styles. Williams has appeared on a mixed variety of shows including MTV The Week in Rock, Live with Regis & Kathie Lee, VH1’s This is Country, Nashville Now and Entertainment Tonight.

Williams has performed at two Super Bowl victory parties for the Dallas Cowboys. But perhaps his most exciting moment was playing for First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton’s surprise birthday party, accompanied by President Clinton on saxophone. "Jason D.," as he is commonly called by fans, is best known for his show-stopping, piano bashing, attention-grabbing performances.

Guests may register at the Block Party to win the grand prize, a hot upcoming concert package at any of the following Downtown Memphis locations: McCarty Travel, Breckenridge Brewery, Ciao Cucina or The Flying Saucer.
