Belz Leasing Marks Successes Despite Challenging Economic Times

Belz Enterprises’ Brokerage and Leasing, and Asset Management departments successfully closed nearly 3 million square feet of new and renewed leases in 2002. Through hard work and persistence, the leasing brokers and managers arranged nearly 1.3 million square feet of new leases, and renewed leases on more than 1.7 million square feet of space.

Industrial properties accounted for the largest segment of leases, including the completion of a new, state-of-the-art warehouse and manufacturing facility at Memphis Logistics and Technology Center (MELTECH).

According to Morris Thomas, vice president of Brokerage and Leasing, Belz’s retail centers have shown positive growth as well, including Centennial Crossing and Eastgate Shopping Center. “We’ve made a successful effort to include more ‘high-end’ stores at Eastgate,” said Thomas. “Following recent openings of The Fresh Market Food Stores and Bed Bath and Beyond, Michael’s Arts and Crafts will open its third Memphis store at Eastgate in April.”

Office and retail tenants continue to seek space in the heart of downtown Memphis. In The Tower at Peabody Place, Deloitte & Touche recently expanded to include the entire 8th floor; Perigee Accounting is locating on the 13th floor; and San Antonio-based Swig Martini Bar is opening off of the lobby.

In addition to downtown office space, Belz opened a new office building at Champion Hills Office Park in East Memphis.
